Wow its March

Yes its March already and since Christmas we have already welcomed in January Line dancing with Wendy Summers who still teaches in Weston but only one class a week now I think which left me breathless and aching the next day but good fun and then in February Sean McCormack the Queens Bodyguard,  read more about this at it’s an interesting site

Did anyone else think for a minute this was her personal secret service bodyguard I know I did and whilst it was not a well built guy, smart suit and a gun ready to ‘take a bullet’ it was in fact a member of the Yeoman of the Guard the oldest British military corps still active created by Henry V11 in 1485.  This was incredible timing as I had only just watched The White Princess mini-series on the television so was still immersed in that era. Sean McCormack had an incredible amount of historical facts at his finger tips and brought his very heavy and astonishingly beautifully embroidered uniform, which we were all able to coo over and marvel at its design. Along with amusing anecdotes he showed us photographs and a very interesting talk so thanks to Sean for a great night

The rest of the year is shaping up nicely and we have the full years timetable of events which is novel but I do appreciate it, I like to know what is coming this month or next or even in six months’ time or maybe that’s just me? If I’m told at the meetings what is coming next I just forget it instantly although I will be sadly missing the birthday party in September but I will be on holiday so can’t win them all

Who else is hoping cake makes a comeback at the meetings it was the only place I got to sample homemade deliciousness as I really can’t bake! Of course, I fully appreciate all the hard work that goes into making a cake just not in my house

In later blogs I would like to include some of our members memories of Weston or growing up anywhere really, what do you think? Get in touch if you’d like to have something included but I have lots of ideas including A day in the Life of ?? or behind the scenes of a Wow WI committee meeting exciting stuff I know!!

The book club has just chosen the rest of the years books, rather a disparate list but they do look interesting, sadly as meetings are now held in members houses, yes we have tried cafes in the past, no new members can be welcomed but if any members want to start another book club then that would be brilliant and could perhaps meet up a couple of times a year but this would be in a café or somewhere, is this something anyone would like to do? Plenty of advice on offer. I have loved the book club and this is one of the reasons I joined Wow Wi originally on a very stormy windy night back in 2011 I believe! At the Blakehay Theatre back then

WoW WI has moved bases a few times since then and has welcomed different presidents and committee members but essentially it’s still the place I look forward to going once a month whatever the weather hope you do too

Earlier In March

Some of our members attended the West Mendip group meeting today and enjoyed an African drumming session.

Love Reading??

🕮☺☺These are the books WOW WI book group have chosen to read over the next few months.

The current book club meets next on Tuesday 13th March at 7.30 pm. Email us on
February   Carte Postales from Greece by Victoria Hislop
March       The girl before then by J P Delaney
April          Elinor Oliphant is completely fine by Gail Honeyman

Our current book club has it's full quota of members. we are in need of some members to come forward to start another book club, it's very rewarding just meeting once a month to discuss and debate the book we have just read and select a new list of lovely books to read.
